Fly to Billund

Ask any child what country they would most like to visit on holiday, and the answer is guaranteed to be Legoland. This popular amusement park with its millions of colourful building bricks is in Billund, in the heart of Denmark.

Billund itself has much to offer, with shops, art, cafés, street markets and festivals. Most of all, it is brimming with Danish charm. The Gyttegård Plantation is just one of the area’s natural beauty spots, with lush wetlands and inland sand dunes at Grene Sand. Footpaths wind through the terrain, between heather, willowherb and bushes laden with raspberries.

Billund is also the perfect starting point for exploring other parts of the Jutland peninsula.  In the north there's the ancient port city of Aalborg and the world's most beautiful sunsets at picture-perfect Skagen. In the west, wind and waves from the North Sea are a magnet for surfers, windsurfers and kite enthusiasts. On the east side of Jutland, the city of Aarhus combines youthful energy and beautiful architecture.

And we mustn’t forget Odense, which is only an hour-and-a-half from Billund. Odense, on the Danish island of Funen, is a true fairytale town, being the birthplace of Hans Christian Anderson – not to mention the Ugly Duckling.

Activities in Billund

At the top of the list are the many delightful amusement parks that attract visitors of all ages to Billund. We’ve already mentioned Legoland, and with good reason, since it attracts more than 1.6 million visitors a year. With its combination of visual wonder, hands-on Lego-building opportunities, rollercoasters and entertainment for all the family, the park deserves its enduring popularity.

Lalandia is no less of an attraction. With waterslides to thrill even adults, the park also has paddling pools and attractions for the youngest members of the family. And there's an ice rink, ski slope and climbing wall – not to mentioned 100% guaranteed good weather.

Explore the animal kingdom at Givskud Zoo, just a 20-minute drive from Billund. Attractions include a safari park with giraffes, zebras and lions. And there are also prehistoric beasts, as the zoo is home to Denmark's largest dinosaur park. With over 50 life-size model dinosaurs, even dads will be impressed.

But the best thing of all about Billund is being together with the family.
