Fly to Vesterålen

Beautiful Vesterålen knows how to impress visitors. This archipelago north of Lofoten has steep mountains, amazing fishing opportunities and idyllic beaches.

Not only tourists are attracted to this island chain. Five million herrings find their way to the fertile waters of this area. Along with them come killer whales, fin whales and humpback whales, hungry for the ‘silver of the sea’.

If you dream of diving with killer whales, the islands of Vesterålen are the perfect place. Did you know that the killer whale can grow up to 30 feet long and weigh up to 6 tons?

Activities in Vesterålen

Vesterålen has plenty of opportunities for cycling and hiking. Feel the wind in your hair at the edge of the sea, or lean back against a boathouse in the shelter of a bay, enjoying the sun on your face.

The fishing activity in this area is very lively. If you arrive Vesterålen at the same time as the spawning cod, during peak season, you will get to participate in festivities unlike any other! Over 1400 busy fishing boats contribute to this important fishing event.

One of the best ways to experience Vesterålen is from a kayak. Let it lead you into the Trollfjord. Salute the steadfast Litløy Lighthouse, and let the waves take you ashore in Bø. Vesterålen means great adventures with lowered shoulders. Maybe that’s why people keep returning here.
