If you are into biking, this is a fascinating destination. Don't fear the inclines, in Hammerfest you can even rent an electric bike, which gives you a little help up the steepest hills. You can join guided tours that last 2-3 hours, or simply go by yourself.

With Fly and Bike, you can reserve your bike at the same time as you order your flight.

Make sure to hop on a boat to the island Sørøya, where you pedal along the old, but newly renovated, «Lighthouse keeper's path». This track will lead you to the outstanding coastal nature of western parts of Finnmark, which is Norway's northernmost county.

Along the way you’ll pass Kjøttvikvarden, which is Norway’s tallest beacon. Keep your eyes open for sea eagles and whales, and stop at Gamvik Gjestegård for a proper, northern lunch.

COMMON SIGHT: Meet Rudolph and his family!

Every summer herds of wild reindeer come to Hammerfest and the surrounding area to graze. Visiting the northernmost town in Norway, you can look forward to seeing these animals up close!

One last recommendation is a visit to Mikkelgammen where Mikkel and Solveig are happy to welcome you. They are of Sami descent, and you'll get to hear their stories about life with the reindeer, as well as listen to the traditional Sami singing called «joiking». A Sami evening on the mountain of Salen is an experience you'll never forget – and sampling the local cuisine is of course part of the adventure.
